Carl Sloan knows most of the creatures crawling, flying or dashing, including the plants taking root, in Alabama. He teaches as an adjunct instructor in biology at Jeff State Community College. He is familiar with the St. Barnabas environment in his position as a naturalist at Ruffner Mountain, and former manager of the Bear Creek Environmental Education Center. He currently lives in Birmingham with his wife Tina and spends his spare time looking for fossils and lichens.
