Meet Mrs. Coman
Mrs. Coman just can't wait to meet you!

Mrs. Coman comes to St. Barnabas Regional School from Our Lady of Fatima Catholic parish.  She is a veteran educator with 30 years experience.  She began her career teaching elementary school in Georgia (3 years).  Later, she taught high school music and English to Birmingham City School students for 20 years during which she also taught literature and writing at Jefferson State Community College and Lawson State Community College.  Prior to retirement, she spent the last 7 years in administration as a reading specialist (k-12) and program specialist for high schools.

In addition, Mrs. Coman is president emeritus of the Alabama Reading Association.  She is also a member of the Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority and Phi Delta Kappa (educational sorority), Who's Who for Teachers, and several other professional and educational organizations.  She is an advent world traveler and enjoys music, reading, art, and the theatre.

Lastly, Mrs. Coman comes from a long line of educators.  Her husband is Paul Coman, Jr., Ph.D. retired physics instructor and science department chair from Birmingham City Schools.  Her daughter is a social studies teacher for Birmingham City Schools and her son is also a teacher, who has just joined the navy to further his education in medicine.  She has one grandchild and is hoping there will be more.

Mrs. Coman loves children and believes in educating the whole child: spiritually, academically, and artistically.  She looks forward to working and being a member of the St. Barnabas school family.
